PhD Qualifying Exam Information
Exam Format and Problem Areas
The PhD Qualifying Exam consists of two sessions held on consecutive days. Each session lasts for four hours. A total of 13 problems are given at each session. The student can choose any 8 of the 13 problems per session to be graded.
The problem areas and background courses from which the problems are drawn are:

- Signals and Systems: ECE 315, 316
- Calculus: MTH 141, 142, 231, 241
- Programming: ECE 206
- Computer Architecture & Organization: ECE 355
