Advising

In order to provide optimum advising for undergraduate students, the ECE department will have the following advising policies.

  • Students who are on academic review are required to meet with an advisor each term in the academic year. All others only need to meet with their advisor once per year during a designated semester (see below).
  • Students whose ID numbers end in an even digit are required to meet with an advisor during the fall semester, similarly, those whose ID numbers end with an odd digit meet with an advisor during the spring semester.
  • With the exception of transfer and coop students, and other extraordinary situations, students should be advised during the regular August to May academic year.
  • Students may contact the main office in FH-414 to determine their academic advisor.
  • Prior to academic advisement, students should fill out the Advising Record form. They should also attach a copy of their transcript to this form. This form is available from the office in FH-414 or the ECE web site.
  • Students needing course substitutions approved will have to bring their DARs and a Course Substitution Petition to the advising session. Note also, some substitutions such as ECE-491s will require a course syllabus.
  • Students should then schedule a meeting with their advisor. With their signed Advising Record form, the student may be cleared for course registration.
  • Students on Academic Review will have to meet with Dr. Crilly.
  • Advising during the summer terms, will be extremely limited. To accommodate transfer students and other special situations, advising sessions for the summer of 2006 will be conducted in FH-414 on the following dates: May 22, June 16, June 30, and August 21. These sessions will generally be held from 2-4 P.M. but be sure to check with the main office in FH 414 to determine specific times.

Note
Students should not expect to be advised at other times during the summer.
