Software Policy

It is the policy of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Information Technology, EECS IT, to perform software installations at the beginning of each semester. EECS IT will perform software installations approximately two weeks before the start of each new semester. Tentatively, software installations will occur at the beginning of August, during Christmas Break, and during Mini-term. We need to be notified prior to our software installation dates of the software you need to have installed. This will give us time to deal with significant issues such as installation automation, stability testing, compatibility testing, and licensing. In order for our unit to fulfill its educational mission we must do significant testing in order to ensure a high level of continuous service in our facilities.

If you need software installed, please provide EECS IT with all necessary physical or electronic media by the dates below. If you need software installed that has not yet been purchased, you should contact William Rhodes, acting EECS IT Administrator, significantly prior to the below dates. Also, all requests for software installations should come through professors. Requests by teaching assistants and graduate assistants will have to be verified by EECS IT with their faculty member before any action is taken.

  • Aug 1, 2007 – Software will be available first week of classes, Fall 2007.
  • December 1, 2007 – Software will be available first week of classes, Spring 2008.
  • May 1, 2007 – Software will be available first week of classes, Summer 2008.

EECS IT will make a good faith effort to accommodate reasonable requests that occur after these dates. However, it will take a minimum of two weeks for any software installation to occur. Submitting your request for new software as soon as possible will ensure that you or your TAs get the maximum amount of time to test the software before including it in the course’s curriculum.
